Electrical Permit

Electrical Permit

An electrical permit is required for most new electrical work or alterations to an existing electrical system, including the installation of fixtures, circuits, devices, appliances, and other electrical components.

Electrical work requiring a permit must be completed by a licensed electrical contractor.

Homeowners who live in the property may replace existing switches, receptacles, fixtures, and appliances without a permit when no changes to the existing electrical system are required. A permit is also not required for repairs to existing fixtures or appliances.

Even when a permit is not required, all electrical work must comply with applicable electrical codes.
