If the judge imposes a fine on you, you may:
- Pay immediately.
- Request up to 60 days to pay.
- Enter into a payment plan.
- Request an indigency hearing. This must be done in person at the Municipal Court Clerk Office (7725 W. North Ave).
Payments are not required prior to the initial court appearance. Citations paid before your initial court appearance may be paid at the Wauwatosa Police Department (1700 N. 116th Street). Citations paid on the day of your initial court appearance or after must be paid at the Municipal Court Office (7725 W. North Ave).
Payments can be made with cash, money order, or check, with some exceptions. Make checks payable to the City of Wauwatosa. Credit card payments can be made online.
Missed Court Appearances
- You will be found guilty by default.
- You have 60 days to pay the fine.
- A letter of explanation will be mailed to the address appearing on the citation.
Failure to Pay a Fine
If you fail to pay your fine in full by the due date or fail to enter into a partial payment agreement, the alternative penalty of a driver’s license suspension or jail time will be ordered. Referral will be made to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for collection.
Extension on a Fine
There are three options available to pay fines. You can:
- Be given up to 60 days from the court date to pay the fine.
- Enter into a payment plan.
- Request an indigency hearing. This must be done in person at the Municipal Court Clerk office.
If you do not pay your fine by the due date, the court will order a suspension of your driver’s license or issue a warrant.
